About HobbyGitz!

I’ve been around the Warhammer hobby on and off since I was about 12. But it wasn’t until my late twenties that everything finally clicked, and I spent the best part of those years feeling like the hobby wasn’t quite for me, mostly because nobody was giving me straight answers.

Now I’m nearly 30, two years deep into properly loving it, and I main 40K and Kill Team with my Astra Militarum collection. This site is basically my way of making sure nobody else has to take that long to figure it out.

The Problem With “Beginner” Guides

Here’s the thing, most beginner guides aren’t actually for beginners. They throw terms like “layering,” “wet blending,” and “zenithal priming” at you before you’ve even opened a pot of paint. They tell you that you need a base brush, a layer brush, a dry brush, a detail brush… and before you know it you’ve spent £80 on brushes you don’t need and you haven’t painted a single model.

I painted my first proper set of models with one brush. One. That’s it.

And don’t even get me started on learning the rules. You buy your first box of Space Marines, maybe grab the Codex, sorted right? Wrong. Now go and buy the Core Rules book, which is stuffed full of fluff and convolution that has no business being in a beginner’s hands on day one.

The truth is, the key to getting into this hobby is knowing the golden few things you actually need. And once you know them, it’s really not that complicated.

What HobbyGitz Is Here For

This site exists to be the guide I wish I’d had. No jargon unless it’s actually necessary. No pushing you to buy more stuff than you need. No gatekeeping.

Just honest, straightforward advice from someone who remembers exactly how overwhelming day one feels, and knows that once you get past it, this hobby is one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever get into.

I do use AI tools to help structure and format articles efficiently, but every opinion, recommendation and product review on HobbyGitz is based and worded on my own genuine hobby experience.

Welcome to HobbyGitz. Let’s get you painting.
